My
first car
In
the year 2011, I turned sixteen years old, and saved $1000 for my car. When I first started looking for cars, all of
the cars in my price range were over 15 years old and had a lot of miles on
them, according to my parents. But, that
weekend, my grandparents visited our house, and told me that if I put down $1000
towards my car, then they would match that and also put down $1000 each, for a
total of $2000. Then, my luck got even
better, as I found out that my parents were also going to match the $1000,
bringing my new budget for car shopping to an even $4000. That Thursday, I went to a Honda dealership
in Columbus, Ohio to look at a Chevrolet Blazer. I liked the car after I test drove it, but my
Dad said that there were some problems with the car, and the dealership said
that they would get their service department to look at it. When I got home that night, my Dad said “call
your grandparents and tell them you found a car you would like to
buy”.
So, I called my grandparents and
told them that I found a car I would like to buy, and they said that they would
come to my parent’s house on Friday, and we could look at the car on
Saturday. When Saturday rolled around,
we started off the day by going to Meijer, where I was purchased a GPS by my
mother, so I could get home if I had to go to certain spots of town I was
unfamiliar with until then. While I was
shopping at Meijer, I received some bad news, which was that the car was still
having the same problem that it was on Thursday, and the service mechanic wasn’t
able to look at the car until later that day.
When we received this news, my
family and I went back to our house, and looked at some more cars for sale that
were online.
When we got home, my grandparents
got their laptops out, as well as did my parents, and they asked me what kind of
car I liked, and what options I would like in a car. I told them that ‘I really didn’t care about
the options, as long as the car would be able to drive in the snow.’ This was when my dad brought up to me the
idea of a Chevrolet Blazer, as they were 4*4’s, and they have been made for a
long time, meaning that I could presumably find a well maintained car fairly
cheap. In addition, I was also quickly
asked about what color I would want my car to be, and I told them ‘I would like
a red, white or blue vehicle’.
While my family and I were searching
online for a vehicle, we found many of them that I liked, however, all of them
appeared to be sold. However, just when
I seemed to give up hope on the website Cars.com for the day, my grandmother
found a 1999 Blazer. When I was
initially told this, I told her that it was outside my price range, and I
couldn’t afford the car.
However, much to my surprise, my
grandparents said that they would cover the remaining cost of the car once it
broke $4000. When I called this
dealership and asked about the car, they said that they still had it available,
and we could test drive it today. After
I got done with the phone call, I told my grandparents and parents that the car
was still available. However, the family
had to split up for the day, as my sister had softball tryouts to go to, while
my grandparents, my Dad and I all went to the dealership to look at the
Blazer.
When we got there, we asked a
salesman to see the keys to the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer, and asked him if we were
able to take it for a test drive. When
the test drive ended, my Dad asked me what I thought of the car. I told him that I liked the car, and that I
wanted to get it for my first car.
However, because my family was split up for the day, my dad said that it
would be best for me to wait until my mom and sister returned from my sister’s
softball practice. When they arrived at
the dealership, roughly 30 minutes after the test drive, the car salesman had
all of the papers printed out to buy the car, and was ready for me to start
signing them. After I purchased the car,
I thanked the salesman, shook his hand, and my grandmother got a picture of me
with the salesman and the car. After we
went back to my family’s house, we went to the House of japan for dinner,
because apparently buying a car is a celebration, according to my
grandparents. After dinner, I offered a
ride in the Blazer to my grandparents, and they took the ride. After I got home, I wrote thank you notes to
my grandparents and then watched TV before going to bed.
